The Safari Awards are a celebration of excellence, where we honour properties and operations that truly stand out. To maintain this standard of excellence, all nominees must meet the following criteria.

We kindly request that you refrain from nominating any safari lodge or camp that doesn't align with these principles:

Location Matters: The property or operation should be situated in a wildlife reserve, either national or private, or within an hour's travel from extensive wildlife, whether game, birdlife, or marine creatures. We exclude city and large town locations.

Wildlife Experiences: It's essential that the property or operation offers wildlife viewing excursions, whether focusing on big game or marine wildlife tourism.

A Safari Circuit Essential: We aim for nominees to be part of the 'safari circuit,' where visitors will enjoy their stay as a vital part of their safari holiday.

A Global Perspective: We welcome nominations from anywhere in the world, not limited to Africa. The spirit of safari knows no bounds.

No to Hunting: Nominated properties or operations should not offer guided hunting excursions.

Each nomination undergoes individual verification to ensure it aligns with these criteria. Should a lodge or operation be nominated that doesn't meet these standards, it will be regretfully disregarded.

Additionally, for the riding safaris category, the criteria include:

Riding as the primary safari activity (whether on horse, elephant, camel, etc.)
Prioritizing the welfare of animals, ensuring their well-being. Animal welfare can be roughly assessed by observing well-fed animals, sufficient rest time (such as horses ridden no more than once a day for five days a week), and the overall health and relaxation of the animals, with sick ones removed from circulation.
