Africa on Foot is located in the heart of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, which shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park and the Timbavati Game Reserve. Africa on Foot offers professional big five walking safaris and is an affordable, unfenced camp with exclusive traversing rights.
The camp has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere where guests are encouraged to interact. The food is good and guests can expect modern cuisine mixed with traditional flair. With only five chalets, the experience on offer is intimate and personalised.
The morning walks are weather and wildlife dependent. At no time do we put our guests at risk. If rangers assess the situation and decide a walk will not be taking place; then guests will go on a game drive. The camp is an open camp and rangers will walk you back to your chalet at night. The closest airport is Hoedspruit (20 minutes drive) and the roads are also easy enough to self-drive to the camp. Children over the age of five are welcome (see child policy below).
Safaris take place in open-topped Land Rovers or Land Cruisers and traverse an area of roughly 7000ha. Game drives take place in the afteroon and last for 3 hours. Safaris in the morning are on foot and also last for 3 hours.
The area is known for its lion prides and big cat activity. There are also white lions in the area, and have often been spotted by guests.
The reserve is a big five reserve and game viewing is always successful. Plains game and primates such as impala, kudu, zebra, giraffe, steenbok, warthog, duiker, mongoose and baboons are just a few of the things to see. Big game spotted while out drive includes hippo, crocodiles, cheetah and much more.
Birdlife is exceptional at Africa on Foot. Commonly seen (and heard) birds include the magpie shrike, lilac-breasted roller, yellow-billed hornbill, glossy starling, white-crowned shrike, blue waxbill, fork-tailed drongo, and francolin. Birds of prey include the brown snake eagle, bateleur, martial eagle, African harrier hawk, African hawk eagle, dark chanting goshawk, black-chested snake eagle, Wahlberg’s eagle, and tawny eagle.
The reserve is involved in ongoing research and conservation projects (ground hornbill project).
