 The hotel contains of two spacious villas, both directly on the beach and embedded in abounded blooming and scented plants. The different designs in construction and interior of the two villas combine the African and Oriental influence of Zanzibar. The hotel is projected for people who are expecting something remarkable. The idea was to create an environment where guests feel as if to dwell in the midst of a paradise-like garden, where they only have to stretch out their hand to plug the most delicious tropical fruits and where the scent of countless exotic flowers caress their noses. Matlai is an idyllic haven, which you will always fondly remember.

We have only six rooms, all with fantastic sea view, two swimming pools, a huge tropical garden, flexible meals and mealtimes, private on-call butler service. The stunning turquoise blue ocean, a huge sand bank in front of the hotel with a nice snorkeling spot, and a tidal creek where one can swim during low tide make this place a paradise.

All rooms are equipped with dressing room, bathroom and balcony or terrace and have a fantastic sea view. Facilities in the rooms: AC, fan, hairdryer, beach towels, TV and DVD player (Asili House on request), Minibar (Villa Kidosho). The entire villas or single rooms/suites can be rented. The high level of privacy makes it perfect for families, friends and honeymooners.

Hotel Matlai is the perfect hideaway for some relaxing days after a safari or to explore the incredible underwater world of the Indian Ocean. The warm, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean is home to about 2,000 species of fish. Almost the entire east coast of Zanzibar is preceded by a still largely intact coral reef, ideal conditions for getting to know the fantastic underwater world of the island. We organize snorkeling, diving and dolphin watching tours.

In our garden: a huge colony of weaverbirds. In Jozani Forest: One of the most famous residents of the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is the Red Colobus Monkey. Found only on the main island of Zanzibar, the Red Colobus is recognized as a separate species and is said to be endemic here. A visit to Zanzibar is not complete without seeing one of the rarest monkeys in Africa, with less than 2000 remaining in the world. In Kizimkazi: the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins or the bottlenose dolphins.
