All you need to know
Intro
Highlights
It's all about the eerie emptiness of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan, a vast nothingness roughly the size of Switzerland. Camp Kalahari, which has just been completely rebuilt is a classic African bush camp, ideal for those who want fun and adventure, without sacrificing comfort and style.
Need To Know
Camp Kalahari has eleven Meru tents: six twin tents, four double tents and one family unit comprising one double and one twin tent with an inter-leading bathroom. All tents have en-suite bathrooms, flush loos and the hottest, wettest showers in the Kalahari.
Safaris
Driving, walking, riding. Most safari guides have a degree in zoology or biology and all are trained by Ralph Bousfield. Enjoy the wildebeest and zebra migration (green season) or quad biking on the salt pans(dry season). Guests at Camp Kalahari have the opportunity to walk with a group of Ju/’hoansi Bushmen and learn how they have survived in this harshest of environments, using their vast and ancient knowledge of plants, animal behaviour and survival skills. Guests can also get up close to friendly, habituated meerkats, and in the dry season, quad bike across the never ending salt pans. Keen riders can also join 5 night horse safaris from Camp Kalahari. Choose between Set Date Departures: a five-night itinerary combining Camp Kalahari with two nights fly camping out on the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, or a Private Departure: from three to five-night itinerary tailored to your needs. Explore this wild, unspoilt area in the same way many as the earliest explorers, hunters and missionaries did – on horseback.
Take an epic quad bike journey to Kubu Island, and sleep out under the stars amongst the giant boulders and ancient baobabs at the Lost Island of baobabs.
Wildlife
Habituated meerkats, brown hyenas, zebra, bat-eared fox, kudu, caracal, aardvark, gemsbok, springbok, vulture, eagle, aardwolf, porcupine, honey badger, a large variety of desert birds and animals.
