Intro
Camp Tsavo is one of the most spectacular places you will ever visit. Set in the middle of an 80,000 acre private conservation area bordering the world famous Tsavo National Parks, this slice of paradise offers you a once in a lifetime chance to live alongside amazing wildlife in the heart of the African bush. This permanent camp is set out like a traditional African village and is surrounded by spectacular panoramic views of Rukinga sanctuary on all sides.

Need To Know
Climate: The weather in Kenya is little short of perfect. Generally sunny, dry and not too hot for most of the year. Temperatures average between 22 - 31 degrees with the hottest months falling between December and February. Laundry: Large purpose built laundry room for volunteers to do their hand washing. Limited water available for hand washing clothes. Social: Large social and dining area, campfire. Power Supply: Generator for 1-2 hours in the evening – so make sure you take plenty of batteries! UK standard 3-pin plug sockets. Phone signal: Very poor. Other Facilities: Fully stocked laboratory with zoological exhibits, study/presentation room and education centre. Security: The camp is surrounded by an electric fence to deter wildlife from entering.
Safaris
After an early breakfast, you will depart for Tsavo East National Park with your own safari guide. Safari is the Swahili word for journey and no visit to Africa is truly complete without one. There are very few experiences that rival a journey through the wilderness, watching animals in their natural habitat. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to spot wildlife, as the temperature is cooler during these times. Your safari will take you on the ‘River route’, stopping for a picnic lunch at Luggard falls before more game viewing on the way back to camp in the afternoon.
Wildlife
More than 50 species of large mammals inhabit the sanctuary, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, African wild dogs, elephants, buffalos, hyenas, giraffes and endangered Grevvy’s zebras. It is also home to over 300 species of birds, dozens of reptiles and amphibians and thousands of insect species.

Accommodation
Camp Tsavo consists of eight authentic makuti (coconut frond thatching) ‘rondavels’ (circular bandas with conical roofs) that sleep up to 80 people and several large dome tents that can accommodate a further 60 people. Each banda has net window covers and every bed has an individual mosquito net – both designed to ensure an insect-free sleep! Similarly, every tent has ventilation and a built in fly screen to keep it cooler during the day and to keep the bugs out – providing you remember to keep the zip closed! Individual sleeping units consist of bunkbeds (bandas only), a high-density mattress, a pillow, sheets, a blanket and a mosquito net (fly screen for tents).
