With impeccable safari pedigrees and a shared passion for the wilderness and African wildlife, the Higgins and Preston families got together and built a dream safari camp on the shores of Lake Kariba, in the Matusadona National Park in the north of Zimbabwe. Changa’s hospitality is fast-becoming legendary – we happily receive the adventurous and the curious, we warmly welcome the active or those who just want to relax and retreat.

All you need to know
Intro
Highlights
Changa provides a base in which to immerse yourself; it’s off the beaten track, away from it all and intriguingly secluded in the heart of an interesting and diverse eco-system, partly man-made, partly formed over centuries. The breathtaking blend of bush, mountains and water in this special spot makes Changa an absolute must on your travel list.
Need To Know
• Accompanied by your sense of adventure, we recommend you bring comfortable, practical clothing compatible with the bush. Dark blues/greens or greys are ideal - steer clear of lights, whites and brights. • Good walking shoes are essential; track shoes are not ideal as they are pervious to grass seeds and thorns. • Whilst malaria is not endemic to the Changa area, Kariba is regarded as a malaria area so prophylactics are recommended. • A good pair of binoculars is almost essential and will greatly add to your safari experience. We recommend optics in the range of 10 x 35 / 40. • A camera with a zoom lens will ensure you don’t miss out on capturing exceptional memories and experiences.
 • Don’t forget the days get hot and the sun is strong, so protection is very important. Bring along sunglasses, a good hat and suncream.
 • A small medical aid kit is advisable, although we do have a medical kit in camp and on our game drive vehicles and boats.
Safaris
At Changa, we endeavour to provide an exclusive, tailor-made experience to suit you individually. Where possible we are happy to plan days and activities around you. Game drives and walks, fishing safaris, Sanyati Gorge trips, boating, birding, and sundowners are activities that you can enjoy.
Wildlife
The Matusadona National Park consists of about 338,000 acres of unspoiled and unfenced splendour. Rugged mountains, springs and streams, Miomba woodlands and Mopane scrublands, pristine riverine vegetation, crystal clear lake water and grass flanked shoreline all combine to create a unique habitat for healthy populations of African mammals. Elephants, who have adapted to a semi aquatic lifestyle, frequent the shoreline as do numerous species of antelope, their feeding patterns governed by the ever-changing lake levels. Lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah occur in good numbers and a few, very endangered black rhino are present. The birdlife is prolific with in excess of 350 species having been identified in the Park. Of particular interest are the many different species of water fowl seen on the shoreline or perched on one of the petrified and partially submerged trees that have become an iconic marker on the Lake Kariba vista. These stark trees, remnants of great hardwood forests, provide homes for bats and insects, vantage points and nesting sites for fish eagles, darters, cormorants and king fishers.
