Intro

Chisa Busanga Camp (“The Nest”) features the local Nyanja word for “Bird’s Nest” in its name. A fitting title for a camp drawing inspiration from the weaver nests found in the area into its architecture.

Chisa Busanga Camp (“The Nest”) lies on a beautiful island in
the heart of the Busanga Plains, Kafue National Park, Zambia;
overlooking vast flood plains and dambos that teem with wildlife.
The flood plains are mostly inaccessible from November to May
as rainfall causes the water level to rise and turns the plains into
a flooded paradise. As the water levels subside a vast floodplain
crisscrossed by a network of small tributaries is exposed.
Accessibility returns in May, making Busanga a seasonal
destination, open from June-November. Its remoteness and the
most remarkable sunrises as mist rises from the drying floodplain
guarantee a magical experience. Signature sightings for this area are tree climbing lions and the red lechwe leaping the small streams. Plentiful Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, buffalo and wildebeest provide for some of the best predator (cheetah, wild dog, lion and leopard) action anywhere in Africa. For the practicing ornithologist, the park boasts a number of endemics, such as Chaplin's barbet, amongst over 450 other species.

Wildlife

The Busanga Plains also known by local guides as the “Gold Mine” teem with antelope as far as the eye can see. This area is incredibly untouched due to its remoteness, inaccessibility and few accommodation options in the area.

The 800 square kilometers of floodplains offer some of the most unique sightings known to man with Lions swimming across small steams or rivers on a hunt to antelope literally jumping meters to clear the water and avoid the inevitable crocodile waiting patiently under the water. A safari in this area is a once in a life time experience.

There is a wide variety of species such as the cheetah, lion, leopard, wild dog, buffalo, elephant, antelope and of course the area has over 500 species of birds.
