Intro

Serengeti Migration camp is situated right in the path of the migration (South Central Serengeti - Tanzania - (within the Moru Kopjes area),which has recently been coined as the The 8th wonder of the world.  There is no better place to view this spectacle of monumental proportions.  Nowhere else on earth is there a movement of wildlife on such a grand scale.  This experience will change the traveler forever, and is an absolute must do! Serengeti Pioneer Camp is ideally situated to offer superlative access to the annual migration and the ‘Big 5’ with sweeping views overlooking Moru Kopjes, Lake Magadi and the endless plains.

Highlights

Each of Elewana Collection’s camps and lodges has its own individual style and feel. Serengeti Pioneer Camp continues this tradition. Paying homage to the mobile camps of the 1930’s, a time when an African safari was truly a journey into the unknown, Serengeti Pioneer Camp’s ‘zero footprint’ and close proximity to nature combines to make an unmistakably distinctive and truly individual offering. A dining tent hosts the Camp’s guests for both breakfast and dinner, whilst luncheons are taken either in the Camp or in the bush during what will no doubt be yet another enthralling day in the Serengeti.

Need To Know

Serengeti Pioneer Camp is close to Seronera Airstrip (30 minute transfer) and close to the famed Moru Kopjes which provide excellent access to the Migration and to the Big Five.

Its prime location allows guests to be in the midst of the drama of the annual Great Migration calving season, which occurs January - March. An evolutionary phenomenon, in the short span of just a few weeks some 400'000 calves are born while the herds reside in the Southern Serengeti region. The event attracts numerous predators, and visitors to the area have the opportunities to witness one of the grandest shows in nature.

When the herds of wildebeest and zebra have left on their journey back north, what remains in the area is an abundance of wildlife and excellent game viewing year-round. The Serengeti is famed for its Big 5, and guests to Serengeti Pioneer Camp will be treated to some of the best game viewing opportunities in East Africa

Lake Magadi is a large soda lake, and seasonally home to thousands of pink flamingo, a sight to behold. Year round the lake is home to numerous bird species to be enjoyed, and is an easy drive from camp.

A rocky outcrop with great historical significance to the Maasai people, Moru Kopjes features ancient maasai paintings on many of its boulders. Another fascination of the kopje, are the gong rocks, a geological phenomenon of rocks that produce musical sounds when hit, which were used as a communication tool by the Maasai people. The Moru kopjes also act as a natural reservoir for water, attracting much game for most of the year. It is a particular favourite for big cats, and one can often view a majestic lion basking in the sun on the rocks

Safaris

With the ‘Big Five’ and the annual migration being the constant highlights of any visit to the Serengeti, the introduction of Serengeti Pioneer Camp will help to sate the desires of even the most expectant of safari travelers. The combination of both Serengeti Pioneer Camp and that of the award-winning Serengeti Migration Camp to the north, it will now be possible to cover over 90% of the Serengeti from both of these two camps, thus maximising the game-viewing opportunities, and increasing game-viewing time. Located in one of the prime locations in the Serengeti, game drives by our own highly qualified and experienced guides are available on request throughout the year. Full day and half day game drives are available with packed lunches or full bush dining available.

Wildlife

The annual migration of over 2 million animals in the Serengeti ecosystem is one of the most famous and well documented natural wonders of the world.
