Intro

“House in the Wild” offers a private and exclusive home away from home. Ideal for families and groups of friends travelling together, “House in the Wild” is at its best when it is hired for a group booking, when guests can enjoy the exclusivity of it all, with complete privacy, and the Mara as their own back yard.

This private 12-14 bed lodge, is situated in a unique location perched on the banks of the Mara River, tucked away on a 1000 acre private estate within the Enonkishu Conservancy on the edge of the Maasai Mara.
Surround yourself with the rich traditions of East African life, exclusive to “House in the Wild” and share an eternal sense of history and farming community, whilst having direct access to some of the world’s best wildlife viewing.

The “House in the Wild” and the “shamba” is a welcome retreat for a few days respite while still being “on safari”. The main farmhouse and five cottages offer the warmth and rustic charm of another era, with all of the home comforts you could ask for.

Outside, the gardens provide a wonderful sanctuary for afternoon tea or a quiet walk looking out for some of the 400 species of bird species found here. Beyond the garden, the farm’s dairy herd, horse stables and the organic vegetable garden beckon.

The Wood family & “The House in the Wild” have a deep, long standing and meaningful connection to the Maasai community, the wildlife and the land, encouraging renewable practices that serve as a model for living in harmony with nature. Through their personal relationships, cultural programs and conservation efforts, they help to preserve the pastoral traditions, stories, medicine and ways of life of the Maasai and the surrounding natural environment.

Highlights

With the creation of the Enonkishu Conservancy, “House in the Wild” raises money through revenue, to support sustainable rangeland management that allows space and resources for the people, cattle, and wildlife. Enonkishu fascinating project designed to improve productivity of the livestock in the region, thereby improving livelihoods and maintaining heritage. Enonkishu is the selected conservation partner with WWF and UNESCO-IHE as the pilot project in their regenerative rangelands project.

Experience a sense of place as you cycle the back roads of the “shamba” learn about the Maasai culture while visiting the local village and a local family. You will discover a vast array of trees and shrubs all indigenous to East Africa. After a full day of adventure, either on a game drive in the wildlife abundant conservancies, a guided
nature walk, you will be treated to delicious cuisine created by Chef Purity from delicious organic produce fresh from the gardens, bakery and dairy. Homemade preserves, freshly baked cakes and breads, yogurt, cheeses, home gown salads, locally farmed honey and the most delicious home grown organic beef, eggs, and chicken
