All you need to know

Intro

The main Lukimbi Safari Lodge building welcomes you with its sweeping staircase and artistic fireplace with creatively engraved animals. Our tasteful lounge overlooks the Lwakahle River where animals often come to drink, and the bar nearby has an award-winning wine list and cellar. No detail has been omitted in our unusual African boma, a favourite outside fire-lit venue. We also move our tables around in and outside our elegant restaurant and on our stunning deck, so you can enjoy different views on different days – a detail our guests often remark upon. Our library has a collection of both non-fiction and fiction available to guests as well as a computer station for their use.

Highlights

Game viewing in the Kruger National Park. View from lodge onto the river

Need To Know

Arrival and Departure Times

Check in time is from 12h00. Check out time is 10h30.

What to Bring

  • Clothing should be casual and lightweight in neutral, dull colours. Bring also a light sweater and heavier, warmer jacket. Dress is informal during the day, with long trousers worn in the evenings.
  • Comfortable closed walking shoes and a hat.
  • A warm jersey and jacket in winter months.
  • Camera and binoculars.
  • Swimming costume/bathing suit.
  • Prophylactic drugs as prescribed by your doctor, as this is a malaria area.
  • If you want to bring a computer or iPad to keep in touch, we do have Wifi access in the lounge.

We also have a well-stocked curio shop, where you can buy a wide variety of items.

Special Precautions

We are in a malaria-risk area and therefore all beds are covered by mosquito nets. Each suite is provided with insect repellent, which should be used especially in the evenings. It is necessary that you consult a doctor before visiting any such area.

Guests often forget the strength of the African sun, so please make sure that you wear a high factor sunscreen and hat and make sure you don’t lie outside in the sun for too long.

Safaris

Since Lukimbi Safari Lodge is bounded by three major river systems, the extensive 15 000 hectare area offers a diverse array of habitats, from grasslands, to wooden areas and lush riverine thickets. No 4×4 safari is ever the same or predictable. It’s about being at the right place at the right time, with the right people to show you where to look. Safaris go out mornings and afternoons. An incomparable way to get in touch with Africa.

Safaris take place twice daily on our private roads, the first leaving in the early morning and the second in the afternoon. Off-road driving is permitted under strictly controlled circumstances.

After breakfast, guests can join qualified guides on a bush walk, which is not more than two hours. This is a great opportunity to see some of the smaller creatures and plants up close, not to mention some of the larger wildlife in their own environment.

Wildlife

At Lukimbi, you feel part of nature from the moment you arrive. There is something for everybody: the impressive Big Five of leopard, lion, rhino, elephant and buffalo; smaller creatures and antelope and what are often termed ‘general game’; and a paradise for bird watchers with 420 species to see. Our guides and trackers share their knowledge of these animals with you.

There they can enjoy the adventure of sitting behind the cascading water. Then there is the main area and if they are lucky, they will be able to watch elephants drinking from the pools in the river bed nearby.

Families with children under 8 years must reserve their own private vehicle.

Rates for child minding and private Landrover are available on request.

Unfortunately, no children under 2 are accepted.

Accommodation

Though the service throughout Lukimbi Safari Lodge is unrivaled, for that extra privacy, and additional space, we recommend our ultra-luxurious King Cheetah and Giant Eagle Owl suites. They have: a separate bedroom; dining area; larger lounge; main bathroom with huge ‘shareable’ bath; an inside and outside shower; a second bathroom; and private pool with wooden deck, where elephants quite often stop by for a drink. A must for any special celebration or spoiling

Enter our classic suits and enjoy your proximity to nature with high windows, a well-appointed bathroom overlooking the trees and river, and your own private deck extending from your lounge. You can’t feel closer to the bush without actually being in it.

Feel spoilt with a spacious bath, inside and outside shower and separate toilet. All 14 suites have air-conditioning; a fan; safe, gauzy, romantic mosquito nets; tea and coffee facilities; and a mini bar. Even with children sharing the room, you can luxuriate in the space and atmosphere.
