Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park. It features twelve rooms which are built on wooden platforms with stilts, covered by a thatched roof. Suspended under the thatched roof is a spacious and comfortable tent equipped with en-suite bathrooms with stunning views, including hot and cold running water, showers, and flush loos. Each luxury tented room is nestled on a private piece of the lodge's property, enabling guests to enjoy the tranquil environment in complete seclusion. Placed in varied settings, some rooms are situated in a forest, some with a lake view, and some on rocky outcrops. The main dining area is a large thatched structure built of rocks, the wood of dead weathered olive trees found on the land, and native grasses. Below the dining area, an infinity swimming pool stretches out from the rocks and seems to disappear into the vast landscape beyond. From the dining and pool area, guests can enjoy the view of a westward oriented valley and its stunning evening sunsets over Lake Mburo National Park .

We offer some of the best riding safaris in any National Park in Africa. Riding with giraffe zebra and buffalo is an unforgetable experience.

Mihingo Lodge is trying its best to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We are the only lodge in Uganda that is Carbon Neutral Certified. We run a compensation scheme for live stock killed by predators. The entire lodge is run on a total of 100 solar panels, we have no back up generator. All water is pumped with solar DC pumps. Our swimming pool pump runs on our solar system. We have or own veggie garden. To save water we have introduced an aqua-ponic system that will provide us with fish in the future together with growing veggies in floating growing beds. All our water heating is solar powered. We catch rain water from the rocks the lodge is built on. We have tried to source nearly all our wood used in construction from sustainable sources. We offer drinking water free of charge to all guests in decanters to reduce the amount of plastic bottles used. We have calculated that we reduce the waste of empty plastic bottles by about 11,000 a year. All staff drink rain water purified by a biological sand filter. All our waste is separated. Organic waste is composted and some of it will be used to produce food for our fish. We encourage horseback safaris and game walks to reduce the impact of game drives on the environment.

The large variety of habitats Lake Mburo National Park supports over 350 bird species including rare but regularly seen species like African finfoot and white-backed heron. If you are able to call the papyrus gonolek using a recorded bird call, it will come to the edge of the papyrus, otherwise this papyrus endemic species is rarely seen. If you are lucky you might see a shoebill and in the rainy season the grey crowned cranes breed and look after their fluffy chicks in the swampy areas of the valleys.

Lake Mburo is also home to a huge number of African fish eagles. There is a large variety of savannah and water birds including some spectacular species like Narina Trogon, Ross’s Turaco, African green-pigeon and the Bare-Faced Go-Away-bird often seen around Mihingo Lodge.

The mammal species vary from sitatunga perfectly adapted to the papyrus swamps with their long spread out hooves, to klipspringers only living on rocky outcrops, to the plains game like zebra and topi. Vast amounts of impala and eland can often be found in Lake Mburo National Park, but nowhere else in Uganda. Rothschild giraffe are another big attraction of the Park.

According to our records Lake Mburo might have the highest leopard concentration ever recorded due to its perfect leopard habitat and thousands of impala which are leopards’ favourite prey in Mburo. Meeting buffalo on walking safaris or horse rides is a great experience.
