All you need to know

Intro

Morokolo is a boutique luxury safari lodge situated in the private concession of the Pilanesberg National Park called the Black Rhino Game Reserve. We are a 2½ hours' drive from Johannesburg in the Platinum province called the North West and a recent winner of The Sanlam Top Destination Award in the 4 star Game Lodge Category for two years running, 2017 and 2018.

Highlights

We offer exciting daily big 5 vehicle safaris with our own dedicated game rangers, scrumptious dinner and breakfast at the reserve restaurant, and the peace and tranquillity of the African bush, all included in our DBB rates.

Need To Know
  • Pilanesberg is a malaria-free area.
  • Early morning walking safaris available on prior request for persons over the age of 16 years.
  • Booking is essential, preferably at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Conservation levies are charged on departure and not included in the DBB rates.
  • We have one baby cot at no extra charge.
  • Lunch is not included in the package but can be arranged with 48 hours' notice for an additional charge.

Safaris

Professionally-guided vehicle safaris twice daily are included in your DBB rates. Early morning walking safaris are also available as an extra.

The Black Rhino Game Reserve is a private reserve linked to the Pilanesberg National Park. We have exclusive access to the wilderness area of the Pilanesberg that is off limits to the normal traffic of the Pilanesberg Park. Safaris are conducted exclusively by our knowledgeable game rangers in our specialised game-viewing vehicles only.

Wildlife

Buffalo regularly roam in this area as they take shelter in remote areas not accessible to other visitors to Pilanesberg National Park. Characterised by a beautiful forest of Tamboti trees the Black Rhino Reserve is home to the BIG 5 (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant, and White & Black Rhino) as well as cheetah and wild dog. Antelope species include Sable, Tsetsebe, Eland, Gemsbok and Springbok. With a species list of over 354, the Black Rhino Reserve is also a true "birders paradise".

Average Stay

We recommend a minimum 2 night stay which includes 4 vehicle safaris. This gives a better chance of seeing the big 5 animals and the various scenic aspects of the Black Rhino Reserve as well as the Pilanesberg National Park. If you would like to sleep in one morning, or do an early morning walking safari we recommend staying an extra night or two.

Average Price

Our rates for April 2018 to September 2019 are:

R3295 per sharing  adult per night

R4090 per single adult per night

Children 12 years and under only pay half rates while children 2 years and under stay free.  These rates are valid until 30 September 2019.

Child Policy

The rules governing game drives in the North West Province do not permit children under the age of 6 years on the game drives for their own safety. If you would like we can arrange a baby sitter to look after them at an hourly rate, and then in the morning when possible after breakfast we take them out on their very own game drive for about 30 minutes to see what we can see at a safe distance. Children between 6 and 12 years are permitted to join the adult game drives at the ranger's discretion.

Season

Each season in the African bush has it's own secrets and beauty -

  • Spring (September to November) for its budding grasses and leaves on the trees, not to mention the baby antelopes
  • Summer (December to February) for the green green scenery, colourful birdlife and summer thunderstorms
  • Autumn (March to May) for the days are still warm enough to laze around the pool and the scenery takes on that reddish tinge to the leaves of the tamboti trees
  • Winter (June to August) for the crisp mornings and the easier game spotting, especially near watering holes, and having a boma fire at night to cuddle up next to
