Wildlife
Lake Malawi, Africa's third largest lake, has a wide range of underwater habitats, resulting in an abundant wealth and diversity of mostly endemic aquatic life. Lake Malawi National Park, the world’s first freshwater national park, supports numerous species of freshwater fish – a greater variety than any other lake on Earth and more than all of Europe and North America combined. The majority of these are colourful fish called cichlids of which Lake Malawi contains more than 900 types, or 30% of all known species.
