Mvuu means “hippo” in Tonga and the name epitomises the large numbers of pods of these water-loving mammals that float in the river. Wildlife
Nestled discreetly on the banks of a quiet lagoon just off the Shire River, on the western boundary of the wildlife-rich Liwonde National Park, the lodge’s surrounding area harbours a surprisingly abundant wildlife populace. Depending on the time of year, guests can expect to see large numbers of elephant, reedbuck, waterbuck and sable, along with numerous pods of hippos in the river. Sightings of buffalo, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, zebra, roan, eland and warthog are also common. Birdlife is prolific – over 400 of the country's 650 bird species occur in the park.

Accommodation
Accommodation comprises eight stunningly designed tents, one of which is a romantic honeymoon suite. Each tent is equipped with elegant furnishings, beautifully-appointed bathrooms (including a unique outdoor shower) and a private viewing platform built to look over the water’s edge. The lounge and dining area are situated on a raised deck overlooking a tranquil lagoon.
