Intro
Forming part of the KAZA Transfrontier Conservation Area, spanning Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana and Angola, the Kafue National Park covers an area the size of Wales comprising a diverse array of habitat including lake, river, swamp, open plains, forest and woodland and is home to 160 mammal species and more than 500 bird species.
Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is located in the far south of the park and is the only facility south of Lake Itezhi-Tezhi and is the closest lodge to Livingstone and the Victoria Falls, making it an idea first (or last) stop on any Kafue itinerary.
Wildlife
Kafue is home to more than 160 species of mammals including all the major predators, including Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dog and Africa's largest variety of antelope, including the iconic Roan and Sable Antelope, Litchensteins Hartebeest, Eland, Reedbuck, Oribi and Sharpes Grysbok. Birdlife is prolific with more than 500 species recorded. The Nanzhila Plains provide the best opportunity to view the Back-cheeked Lovebird, endemic to this part of Zambia.
