Highlights
Tarangire National Park is among the most diverse Parks in Tanzania. The Park is 2850 sq. km (1,096 sq. miles) in size and is located 118 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha. Tarangire is a little gem on the Northern safari circuit, especially if you love Elephants. Tarangire boasts large herds of Elephants and provides excellent habitat for Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and many Antelope species unique to East Africa. These include Lesser Kudu,
Fringe Eared Oryx and Grants Gazelle. Herds of up to 300 Elephants dig for water in the dry riverbeds for underground streams, while migratory Wildebeest, Zebra, Buffalo, Impala, Gazelle, Hartebeest and Eland crowd the plains. Thousands of animals migrate to Tarangire National Park from Manyara National Park during the dry season. The park is home to more than 550 species and the habitat is completely different from other parks. A retreat for bird lovers, the park swamps have one of the largest selections of breeding birds anywhere in the world. The Yellow Collared Love birds are usually seen along the Tarangire River.
