Sala’s Camp is a tented camp that combines tradition with comfort and it’s a model of understated, intimate luxury. Situated in the southern, wilder corner of Kenya’s mighty Masai Mara game reserve close to the confluence of the Sand and Keekorok Rivers – an idyllic geographical feature that attracts teeming wildlife. Sala’s Camp location is a big draw, close to Tanzania with wonderful views of the Serengeti National Park, it is one of the first camps in the Mara to witness the legendary annual migration of wildebeest, which thunders by from June to September each year. Sala’s Camp also offers the best of the Masai Mara’s wildlife and birdlife year round. Sala’s Camp first hosted guests in 2004, it has become renowned for combining an authentic safari experience with hospitality and fine dining. Sala’s Camp is owned and operated by The Safari Collection, and can be booked for the night or as part of a complete tailor-made safari.

Highlights
Sala’s Camp prides itself on its hospitality and all arrangements are made with meticulous care. All guests enjoy full-board during their stay, which includes all meals and most drinks, excluding champagne and specially imported wines and spirits. There are activities on offer for children of all ages. The camp is also suitable for guests with limited disabilities and special meals can be catered for by prior arrangement.

Children are ages 3 to 15 years inclusive. 16 years and over is considered an adult. 2 years and under is an infant. Infants stay FOC. Extra beds are available on request. We recommend families book the family tents (Tent 2 and 3). Extra beds are available on request and family tents have additional space. The local Maasai are keen to teach their traditions and will show children how to throw a ‘rungu’, tie a ‘shuka’ and make a bow & arrow. Activities also include searching for the ‘toothbrush tree’, spotting the ‘Little Five’ and the ‘Ugly Five’ on game drives, and finding spoor in the riverbed.
Accommodation
Sala’s Camp received a major makeover in 2016 and now boasts seven large, new tents and can accommodate up to 22 people. There are three superior tents, two honeymoon tents and two family tents. Bathrooms have hot rainfall showers and flushing toilets. Some of the tents have solarheated
water while others use wood-fired ‘kuni boosters’.Electricity is solar powered, with a generator for back-up.
Accolades
Sala’s Camp has a gold eco-rating and is built from locally made materials with a light ecological footprint. We employ Maasai guides and spotters who grew up on the edges of the reserves and are proudly involved in local conservation initiatives. The camp is situated away from the crowds in a private, low-use area of the reserve.
Season
Sala’s Camp will be closed on 15 April 2024 to 31 May 2024 inclusive. These dates are subject to change and there is flexibility with closure dates.Please contact reservations for more information.
