All you need to know

Intro

Sasaab is close to the Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Reserves, in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. It’s a place of rich natural diversity with an astounding number of animals from huge majestic elephant to lion, leopard and cheetah and the ‘Samburu Special Five’: the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich. Sasaab prides itself on its hospitality and our friendly and attentive staff strive to make every guests’ experience unforgettable. The architecture of Sasaab follows strong Moroccan design principles, in which African heat is of primary consideration. Each of the nine Moroccan-styled rooms is over 100m² with an enormous open-air bathroom and private plunge pool. From the veranda, guests can take in the remarkable views across the Laikipia Plateau toward the jagged peak of Mount Kenya. Its position on the river naturally facilitates watching the herds of elephant that come to bathe.

Highlights

Majestically situated on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, Sasaab commands views across the arid landscape of the Northern Frontier District towards the jagged peak of Mt Kenya. The Moroccan design focuses on cool space and elegance.

Need To Know

SpaSaab likes to use all organic naturally active products and currently we are using Healing Earth which is a premium organic spa brand inspired by Africa’s ancient energy, healing traditions and natural richness.

Safaris

Enjoy game drives in an open vehicle, guided walks, bird watching and star gazing.

Wildlife

Elephants frequently visit the opposite bank. Guests can take a game drive on an open vehicle to spot the ‘Samburu Special Five’, including the Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk & Somali Ostrich. Guests can also spend a night or two in the further reaches of the conservation fly camping. This fly camping safari starts with a 4–5 hour walk accompanied by camels along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, where bird life and fauna are abundant.

Child Policy

Children are welcome at Sasaab (those under 3 stay free) and all are allowed on game drives. Extra beds are available on request. We recommend parents book the family suite (rooms 8 & 9), as it has a shared central area and pool where families can enjoy time together. It can also be taken as an exclusive use villa, as it has separate access and meals can be provided. Local Samburu guides speak excellent English and are delighted to teach children about their traditions, such as making a traditional bow and arrow. Baby-sitters and special meals are by prior arrangement.

Sasaab has seven individual rooms and one family unit. The lodge can accommodate up to 18 guests. Each room is over 100 m² and has magnificent, elevated views overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River.
