Serengeti North Wilderness Camp is a seasonal camp located in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. The style of camp is simple, but with every comfort taken care of. Located in the northern part of the Serengeti National Park, not too far from the Mara River, it is typically open from July to October to coincide with the dramatic river crossings. This is a beautiful area – a mix of gently rolling hills and riverine forests, broken by small rivers and occasional granite outcrops and ‘kopjes’.

Highlights
Here are some of the highlights of our camp:
- You're in the heart of the Serengeti - We are one of the few camps permitted to be in the national park, this means you are in the heart of the action. Our position from the Mara River also means that you are not too far from the river crossings.
- Our amazing staff and guides - Our staff and guides love what they do and love where they work. When you stay with us they will want to share their love of the Serengeti with you and provide you with exceptional service and a great experience.
Need To Know
Before you arrive at our camp, there are a couple of things you need to know:
- Time of the year and season - The time of the year and the season means different wildlife viewing experiences. It's a good idea to take the time of the year and season into account to get the best out of your Serengeti experience. If you aren't able to join us at this camp from July to October, be sure to enquire about one of our other camps.
- No night time game drives - For your own safety and the safety of the wildlife, no night time game drives are permitted.
- Moving around camp at night - We are in a wilderness area, which means animals can make their way into the camp. It's strongly advised to remain in your tent at night.
- Malaria - The Serengeti is a malaria area and it's advised that guests bring their own spray/repellent. It is also recommended to bring prophylaxis prescribed by your doctor.
- Yellow fever - Although Tanzania is a low risk yellow fever area, visitors from yellow fever areas will need to present a yellow fever certificate upon arrival at their point of entry into Tanzania.

Wildlife
The word Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word Serengit which means 'Endless Plains'. Next to these endless plains is the wildlife that seems to be endless. The Serengeti ecosystem supports a wealth of wildlife including over 3,000 lions, 1,000 leopards and 7,700 to 8,700 spotted hyena. These numbers alone are testament to the wildlife that inhabit these sun-soaked plains.
Once again, we recommend that you consider the season and time of year to suit your experience.

While we would love for you to stay with us for as long as possible, we recommend that 4 - 7 days is a good amount of time to enjoy the Serengeti and everything it has to offer.
Average Price
Pricing is divided into high season and low season rates. These rates are dependent on wildlife movements in the Serengeti, but low season rates are typically during the long and short rainy seasons, while high season rates are typically the drier periods. Our camp is made up of ten spacious tents. Tent numbers are limited to reduce the impact on the environment, but this also gives our clients a feeling of exclusivity and privacy. Tent features and inclusions:
- Comfortable wooden framed bed with quality linen
- En-suite bathroom with eco-friendly flush toilet and bush shower
- Separate dressing room area
- Private shaded veranda
Season
The time of the year you visit the Serengeti will mean different viewing experiences, and because it's home to one of the world's largest land migrations, this may be something you want to consider. Please note that the periods below are a rough estimation, as herd movements are driven by the rainy seasons.
- January, February and March - Herds are located on the southern plains of the Serengeti, where zebra and wildebeest feed on the succulent and nutritious grass during this period. Most wildebeest calves are born during a short period in February. This is when tussles between predator and prey are at their best.
- April and May - Wildebeest begin to migrate north at the start of April. By May the Serengeti's wildebeest all seem to be moving north; seeking out fresh grazing and water (made possible by the long rainy periods of March and April). A mix of zebra, wildebeest, as well as Thomson's and Grant's gazelles can be seen in the hundreds of thousands.
- June - This is when the herds come to a halt on the south side of the Grumeti River. Nile crocodiles lie in wait for the herds
- July and August - The herds continue moving north, spreading out through the heart of the Serengeti National Park.
- September - The herds spread out even more as they encounter their biggest obstacle yet, the Mara River. This river forms the border between the Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The Mara River is a scene of panic and confusion as herds cross over into the Maasai Mara by trying to navigate the fast moving waters and Nile crocodiles.
- October and November - The herds now head south in search of greener grass as the November and December bring a short rainy period. Herds move through Loliondo and the Serengeti National Park's Lobo area.
- December - Back where it all started, the herds remain on the southern plains of the Serengeti, where the migration will begin again...
Visitors can expect temperate conditons throughout the year, with the warmest periods being January, February, March and April (avg. max 29 degrees celsius, avg. low 16 degrees celsius). May, June, July and August are the cooler periods (avg. max 26 degrees celsius, avg. low 14 degrees celsius). A long rainy season takes place from February until May, after which there is a considerably drier period from June until October. A short rainy season then occurs for much of November and December.
