Intro

At Wayo Africa we like to be a little bit different. With 20 years of experience we are the only company to offer multi activities across northern Tanzania from canoeing to mountain biking and walking. Using our expert guides and unique access we are able to take you to beautiful and remote areas within the iconic Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and Arusha regions. With only 30 percent of the Serengeti currently accessed by tourism, we prefer to explore the unexplored regions, taking you away from the crowds, immersing you in a truly magical and authentic bush experience.

At the heart of Wayo is our passion for the environment. We have spearheaded change in the safari industry to become the first company to get rid of plastic water bottles and via Wayo, many Serengeti lodges source their own reusable bottles. Wayo’s Green Camps are also low impact, providing low-flush or compost loo’s and bucket showers to minimise the amount of water usage; preparing meals in Arusha to minimise waste in our camps; and using solar powered lights.

Highlights

Famed for our incredible multi activity safaris (mountain biking, canoeing and walking) and extraordinary access within the Serengeti and Northern Tanzania, Wayo Africa has a unique safari experience to offer. Imagine walking with the migration, being the only people there, slowly walking alongside thousands of wildebeest and zebra who, as the day progresses, gradually become habituated to your presence and accept you in their herd. Feel the thunder of their hooves underfoot, hear their calling from mother to calf and smell the African earth.

Walking Safaris
For the past 20 years we have been taking our guests on beautiful walks which can be as short as a one-day experience or an immersive 14 day hike. We cater for all abilities and are able to tailor our routes to ensure we are always in the very best wildlife areas. From one day taster walks to multi-point 3 and more day walks where your camp moves with you, our unique expert knowledge of each region means we can reveal hidden gems within areas such as the Black Rhino Zones, secret springs which are teeming with wildlife and our Ngorongoro Crater rim walk, a stand out unique experience to enjoy one of nature’s wonders. This walk allows you to enjoy the finest views of the Crater but avoids the crowd on the crater floor. You will pass through varying montane landscapes along Maasai cattle tracks for 21KM before you reach your Wayo fly camp. By walking you become one with the landscape and wildlife around you. Your senses are heightened; your pace slows down so you start to notice the little things from the birds to the insects, noticing the subtle changes in biodiversity and geology. We strongly believe our slow safaris will have a powerful impact on you and will transform how you experience your safari.

Guiding                                                                                                                                                                                                            At the heart of Wayo is our expert guiding, having operated our own guiding school which has trained countless National Park rangers over the years along with other lodge guides. We pride ourselves on giving our guests a very specialist guiding experience. Where possible, we recommend your guide joins you at the start of your journey and travels with you all the way.  One of the benefits of having your guide join you for your entire journey is as you get to know them better, they will be able to tailor your wildlife experience and share their knowledge with you, focusing on your own personal interests and passions.

Eco-Friendly Camps
All our Green Camps operate in the most environmentally sustainable manner. We use low impact energy creation wherever we can, no generators on site and minimal waste in the camp due to preparing part of the meals in Arusha. We strive to be plastic free wherever possible, use solar powered lights, recycle and have created complex water collection and reuse systems to reduce our impact on the delicate eco systems of Manyara and the Serengeti.

Safaris

Wayo Africa is a leader in authentic private safaris in beautiful remote locations in Northern Tanzania. We specialise in safari experiences like no other, offering walking, biking, and canoeing safaris; game drives; and night game drives. We choose the finest ingredients for a life changing safari experience. We never compromise and we get the essentials right, comfortable beds, quality bed linen, delicious food, excellent coffee served from your Stanley flask on rocky kopje as the sun rises… Add in our extraordinary access to private safari areas and perhaps the most important ingredient of our expert guides and you have the perfect safari. Wayo Africa also offers a first class DMC service to our clients to ensure every element of their trips is expertly handled. If you would like a tailor made safari experience we’re here to help you.

At Wayo we encourage you to get out of the vehicle to really feel your safari. Feel the thunder of the Great Migration through your feet. Touch the earth and feel the power of nature. Engage your senses. Get out of a vehicle. Live it.

Wildlife

Wayo Africa prides itself on being able to offer extraordinary access to private locations such as the closed Black Rhino Zones in and around the Serengeti combined with multi activities. This is due to the fact that Wayo also run anti-poaching guide training schools which train many of the National Park rangers and other lodge guides.

On our safaris you will experience wildlife close up, from walking with herds of wildebeest and zebra to witnessing the jaw-dropping sight of a lion hunting its prey. Staying at our Green Camps, walking camps or fly camps means you will have a non-stop safari experience at stunning locations, with breathtaking sceneries and away from the crowds.

Accommodation

Our Green Camps offer excellent value for money and have been voted 'Best Value' by Lonely Planet. Our camps all operate in exclusive areas, away from the crowds.

Manyara Green Camp
Tucked away underneath towering fig trees along a dry riverbed is our newly upgraded Manyara Green Camp. The southern end of Lake Manyara National Park is quiet, so privacy and exclusivity here are what makes this camp so special. At the end of the dry riverbed is a natural stairway to a seasonal waterfall and hidden beach, ideal for a quick dip or sundowners where you can sit quietly and enjoy all the action down below as buffalo, elephant and other wildlife come to drink from the fresh waters of the Endabash river.

This camp comprises of 8 new square luxury en-suite tents on raised platforms with lounge deck and sitting area. Max capacity 16 adults sharing

Serengeti Green Camp
Our Serengeti Green Camp moves from Southern Serengeti (Nabi Hill area Mid Dec – March) to the Northern Serengeti  (Kogatende area July – Nov) which allows us to ensure you are always in the very best location to get close to the magic of the migration and all the wildlife action. In the Nabi area our camp is located in a beautiful quiet area at the foot of the giant Nabi rocky kopje, underneath towering acacia torillis trees overlooking the vast Serengeti short grass plains. In the Kogatende area we are in reach (2 hour game drive) of the Mara River where you can witness one of nature’s spectacles, the wildebeest and zebra river crossings of the Great Migration. This is comprised of 10 Double/ Twin luxury tents with en suite attached bathrooms including a compost toilet and bush bucket shower.

Banagi River Camp
Our Banagi River Camp (June – November) is the ideal place to encounter wildlife at close hand while resting en route between the Ngorongoro Crater and the western corridor of Northern Tanzania, or en route following the Great Migration. Positioned on a picturesque bend in the scenic Orangi River, the camp overlooks the riverbed surrounded by trees, which lend it a secret hidden atmosphere while being so close to the main wildlife areas.

This is comprised of 8 double / twin 4 m bell tents with en suite bathrooms with compost toilets and a bush bucket shower.

Season

Due to the nature of our camps we are able to follow the migration and move to different areas of the Serengeti to suit our guests’ needs. This means we are available in both the predator (April-Mid December) and migration season (Mid December- April), although the activities you are able to do within these seasons may change, for the latest information please contact us.Many of the areas we focus our safaris around are good all year round for wildlife sightings. Lake Manyara National park is a very good all-year park. It is a small park bordered almost on all sides; it is hard for animals to move out (although it's not like they want to move out with all the water and food there). So, for a guaranteed good wildlife experience visit this park any time of the year.

The Ngorongoro Crater is also good year-round. It does get very dry during some seasons but the wildlife is always plentiful; making for some incredible sightings!

Tarangire National Park is amazing during the dry season. This long river valley is the only source of water for animals from July till mid November and massive herds can be found in the park.
