All you need to know

Intro

Quietly tucked away on the top of a hill in rural Africa and at the same time located in the very heart of the Northern Tanzania safari circuit Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge breathes the atmosphere of true Africa. With only fifteen en-suite tented houses the Tented Lodge offers intimate charm and personal service. By staying at Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge, you directly contribute to the well being of the children of the adjacent Children’s Home.

Highlights

Our Children's Home. The lodge is part of the Rhotia Valley Foundation, which supports the people of Rhotia area. With your stay at Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge, you will directly contribute to the wellbeing of local children of the orphanage next to the lodge.

Need To Know

Rhotia Valley is completely embedded in the community of Rhotia. We aim to minimize the impact on the natural environment and support the local people. Therefore, all materials that were used to build the Lodge and Children’s home are from Tanzania and 90% of this was local. Rhotia Valley renewed 3 km of the pipeline and maintains the line and the pump, not only for the lodge, but also for the village. We use solar panels, solar boilers and there is a bio-gas installation. Moreover, we support the local schools in the community in different ways. Due to the high altitude (1700m) there are no mosquitoes to interrupt your quiet evenings. During the months of July and August is bit cold in the evening (13-16 degrees).

Safaris

Cultural walks, mountain bike tours and day trips to Lake Manyara, Serengeti (Ndutu), Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater can be arranged, including hikes with a professional ranger through the forests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. While Rhotia Valley is a perfect place to come home to after a long day of safari, it is also a great place to spend more days to discover the African rural scenery, the local culture or to enjoy a relaxing day at the swimming pool. The possible safaris: Hike Ngorongoro Conservation Area. If you cannot get enough of the stunning nature, we have a two hour hike available to the waterfalls in the forests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area under the guidance of an experienced ranger. You can also enjoy a guided cultural walk: walking from the lodge to Rhotia village accompanied by a local guide. Our guide will give you an insight into local customs and traditions of the local tribe, Iraqw; family and farm life, and a chance to wonder around in a more relaxed and adjusted pace than hunting the Big Five. This walk is preferably arranged in the morning due to the high temperature in the afternoon and availability of the guides. Day trip safaris to Lake Manyara, Serengeti(Ndutu), Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and the highlands are all easily accessible from Rhotia Valley. Moreover, of course you can make longer trips to the Serengeti or to another highlight: the Empakaai Crater in the northern Ngorongoro, and return to Rhotia Valley after a few days. We love to hear your stories! Mountain bike tours: explore the village Mto Wa Mbu, the nearby banana plantation and the shore of lake Manyara by bike. Feel the wind, see the zebras, hear the sound of the gnoes. Biking is a whole different experience than sitting in a car! Last, but not least, we suggest the visit of the Mlima Nyoka (Snake hill) not far from Karatu with stunning view over Manyara Lake.

Wildlife

Rhotia Valley is located right up against the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, so occasionally Elephants, Buffalo's or Bushbucks can be spotted. Moreover, a variety of beautiful birds can be seen.
