Sand Rivers is situated in the northern part of the Selous Game Reserve which is the second largest protected wilderness area in the world. Our lodge is so much part of the Rufiji’s ebb and flow that it seems almost moored on the banks, with one side entirely open to the river. Views across its brown, swirling waters call to mind adventure movies from another time. Indeed, in the early days, we pioneered legendary foot safaris here, and we still make life in and around the lodge as action-packed and exciting as the fizzing natural world around it.

Intro
Highlights
- An extraordinary location on the banks of the Rufiji River, far from other lodges - we seldom see another car.
- Explore this vast wildlife area on foot, by boat, in open game drive vehicles.
- We specialise in getting under the skin of this area - taking things slowly, creeping up to animals unobserved - a genuine African safari experience.
- Picnic breastfasts on a sandbar in the Rufiji while on a boat trip to Stiegler's Gorge, lunch at the hot springs, sundowners on Lizzie's Hill with a beautiful view.
- A night fly-camping under the stars in a mosquito netting tent (needs to be booked in advance, attracts an additional charge).
- Entirely open-fronted rooms - sounds of the birds and hippos, close to nature.
- A warm, friendly team of staff and expert guides.
