Need To Know
• Accompanied by your sense of adventure, we recommend you bring comfortable, practical clothing compatible with the bush. Dark blues/greens or greys are ideal - steer clear of lights, whites and brights. • Good walking shoes are essential; track shoes are not ideal as they are pervious to grass seeds and thorns. • Whilst malaria is not endemic to the Hide area, Hwange is regarded as a malaria area so prophylactics are recommended. • A good pair of binoculars is almost essential and will greatly add to your safari experience. We recommend optics in the range of 10 x 35 / 40. • A camera with a zoom lens will ensure you don’t miss out on capturing exceptional memories and experiences.
 • Don’t forget the days get hot and the sun is strong, so protection is very important. Bring along sunglasses, a good hat and suncream.
 • A small medical aid kit is advisable, although we do have a medical kit in camp and on our game drive vehicles and boats.
Safaris
Game drives.
In order to explore the full range of wildlife habitats in Hwange, we have a fleet of specially designed safari vehicles. In the expert hands of our guides, you’ll find yourself heading out through the acacia-fringed grassy vleis and through the teak forests in search of Hwange’s Big Five. Game drives are the best way to see the variety of wildlife and scenery of the park and they almost always yield unexpected sightings.
Walking is also the best way to appreciate the small magic of the bush – the way termites build their colonies, how dung beetles work, the finer points of the toothbrush tree. Encountering big game on foot is the ultimate thrill, safe in the knowledge that there is a trained, armed guide on hand to look out for you. Walking gives you a completely different experience of wildlife and the bush and its just nice sometimes to get out there and stretch your legs in a place that is so uncontrived, beautiful, wild and vast.
Wildlife
Hwange National Park is a haven for over 100 mammal and 400 bird species, the park protects populations of all of Zimbabwe’s endangered species, elephants numbering in excess of 20,000 (up from around 4,000 when the park was proclaimed), and what is thought to be one of the largest populations of African wild dog left in the world. Large prides of lion and buffalo are frequently seen here and you have a good chance of spotting leopard in addition to cheetah and spotted hyena. The wild and woolly brown hyena also occurs here and is something of a rarity.

Season
During the hot summer rains between December and April the bush becomes lush and the wildlife disperses. Between June and October, these months see the bush rapidly dry and thin out, all but a few waterholes remain, and the wildlife is concentrated and easy to spot.
High Season is July to October
Mid Season is from April to June
Low Season is from November through to March
